Cong FIR against CM over MP ‘hate’ speech

Guwahati: Senior Congress leader and leader of the opposition in the Assam assembly, Debabrata Saikia, filed an FIR against chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly making hateful statements during Jan Ashirwad rally in Vidhisha district in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.The FIR has been filed at Nazira police station in Sivasagar district. In the FIR, he stated, In a country governed by the rule of law, Sarma has taken electoral rhetoric to its ugliest form. White taunting Kamal Nath, a prominent member of the Indian National Congress about his Hindu identity, Sarma has directly suggested that 10, Janpath should be burnt.He accused Sarma of giving a clear instigation towards violence and arson. By suggesting that the residence of a 77-year-old woman be burnt down, Sarma is not just attacking a prominent face of the opposition, but he is giving a clarion call towards arson. Such wanton statements coming from a constitutional authority has the potential of causing misguided persons to resort to violence and potentially cause harm to the residents of 10, Janpath, he stated in the FIR.10, Janpath is the residence of senior Congress leader and MP Sonia Gandhi, who is the former president of the Indian National Congress. Saikia said Sarma is liable to be booked under Sections 153, 115 and 436 IPC.Though the officer-in-charge of Nazira police station did not attend any call despite repeated attempts, a senior police officer said the matter is under examination.
