Govt school students yet to get uniforms, books

Karwar: The distribution of uniforms and textbooks among students of government schools in Belagavi division will be delayed by some more days. But the corporation has informed the government that there would be delay in the supply of uniforms to schools in Belagavi division. But it would extend till the first week of September as uniforms will be supplied to schools in a phased manner. The district needs 2,09,638 saleable books, of which only 1,24,220 have been supplied, which is 59.25% of the total requirement. Collectively, only 65.22% of the total demand of books have been supplied till date.Education department officials said that they are making efforts to supply uniforms and the remaining books to children so the teachers can commence teaching at the earliest.

Karwar: The distribution of uniforms and textbooks among students of government schools in Belagavi division will be delayed by some more days. This means, the commencement of teaching at these schools will also be delayed.Students and parents in Uttara Kannada district, which comes under the Belagavi division, are worried as the government is yet to make arrangements for the distribution of uniforms and textbooks. Though the schools have opened on June 1 after summer vacation, the students are still waiting for classes to begin.With every passing year, the number of students in government schools is depleting, and competition by private schools is posing biggest challenge to government schools in the district. The delay in the distribution of textbooks and uniforms is adding to the concerns.According to officials sources, the contract for supplying dress materials to government schools in Belagavi has been given to Karnataka State Handloom Corporation . But the corporation has informed the government that there would be delay in the supply of uniforms to schools in Belagavi division. Officials say that the distribution may begin in the third week of June. But it would extend till the first week of September as uniforms will be supplied to schools in a phased manner. Students of some government and aided schools said that they were wearing last year’s uniform, and will continue to use it till they get the new one.The education department has sent only some books demanded by government and aided schools.A total of 4,07,001 free books are required in government and government aided schools. Of them, the government has already supplied 3,23,654 books, which is 67.85% of the total requirement. The district needs 2,09,638 saleable books, of which only 1,24,220 have been supplied, which is 59.25% of the total requirement.
