Woman killed over property dispute

KARWAR: A 23-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her sisters-in-law over a property dispute in Kamadod village of Ranbennur taluk of Haveri district on Thursday. When he refused to part the money, Lakshman allegedly attacked him, killing him on the spot.Soon after getting the information, Mallapur police rushed to the spot and arrested Sindhura Lakshman. He was staying alone, sources said.According to sources, the accused Sindhura Lakshman Valmiki , 30, had come to the farm house in the midnight and demanded money from Chellaiah. Police have registered a murder case.Shyam Valmiki, brother of Sindhura Lakshman, was also arrested by police three days ago for allegedly cheating a woman by taking money from her by promising a government job. As part of the plan, Shantavva and Choudavva went to Rekha's home in Kamadod when their father was out of the village.

The incident came to light on Friday.According to an FIR filed by Ranebennur rural police, the victim Rekha was allegedly set ablaze at her home by her sisters-in-law Shantavva and Choudavva.Rekha hailed from Hadla village of Harapanahalli taluk and had married to Nagaraj Kacharabbi three years ago. Nagaraj, who owned 4.5 acres land, died a month ago following some health issues and his sisters - Renuka, Shantavva and Choudavva, conspired to take over the property of their brother, said police sources.They allegedly hatched a plan to eliminate Rekha. As part of the plan, Shantavva and Choudavva went to Rekha's home in Kamadod when their father was out of the village. They beat her up, poured kerosene and set her ablaze, they added.Rekha's mother Kalamma later filed a complaint against Shantavva and Choudavva.Watchman killedA petty fight over money resulted in the murder of a senior citizen in Chekarashitta area of Devalamakki village in Karwar taluk on Thursday night.The victim Chellaiah hailed from Tamil Nadu and was working as a watchman at a farm house in Chekarashitta for the last eight years. He was staying alone, sources said.According to sources, the accused Sindhura Lakshman Valmiki , 30, had come to the farm house in the midnight and demanded money from Chellaiah. When he refused to part the money, Lakshman allegedly attacked him, killing him on the spot.Soon after getting the information, Mallapur police rushed to the spot and arrested Sindhura Lakshman.
