BENGALURU/HUBBALLI: A day after the Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the killing of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh , picked up two Hubballi youths, the mother of one said on Tuesday he’s innocent and the arrest is a case of mistaken identity.The SIT on Sunday arrested Amit Ramachandra Baddi , 27, and Ganesh Miskin , for their alleged role in the murder.“I’m shocked. My son went out of the house on Saturday and didn’t come back. Our neighbours told me that police had taken him away. I went to the Hubballi police station and was told that SIT had picked up my son for questioning in the Gauri Lankesh case. When I asked for details, cops pleaded ignorance,” Amit’s mother Jayashri Baddi said.“Amit is our family’s breadwinner. The SIT sent me a notice saying it has arrested him and directed me to contact its Bengaluru office,” she said.Meanwhile, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) refuted allegations that Ganesh Miskin is one of its leaders.In a statement, it said: “There have been media reports portraying Ganesh Miskin as an RSS leader. The news is far from the truth and baseless. RSS has been continuously working with the society on social reforms and lakhs of karyakartas are involved in various activities. Sangh has never glorified or supported any incidents of crime and killings since inception. Dragging in the Sangh's name for no reason is highly deplorable.”The RSS had, in a statement, condemned Gauri’s murder and demanded a fair and impartial probe. It had mourned for Gauri Lankesh during the Nagpur meet in March 2018.Baddi and Miskin were accused in a group clash in Kasba Peth police station limits, according to Hubballi police sources.Both are childhood friends and allegedly indulged in stone-pelting and a group clash during Shivaji Jayanti in 2013. The duo was arrested for allegedly pelting stones and instigating others. The police arrested them under the Goonda Act and opened a rowdy sheet against them. Police said the duo was not invovled in clashes after that.Meanwhile, Ganesh Miskin’s mother and brother said he’s innocent and demanded a thorough investigation.
