Hubballi: Malaprabha Mahadayi Kalasa Banduri Raita Horata Okkoota convened a meeting here on Thursday to decide the future course of action following the final verdict of the Mahadayi River Water Tribunal.It has decided to meet the chief minister and urge him to convene an all-party meeting to file a review petition in the tribunal or appeal in the Supreme Court to demand 36.5 tmc feet of water to Karnataka.The meeting organised at Samskrutika Bhavana at New Cotton Market was attended by seers of various mutts, activists and farmers. The activists urged the Centre to publish a gazette notification of the decision of the tribunal, so that the state government can go ahead with the implementation of Kalasa-Banduri canal projects.The meeting also resolved to welcome the tribunal’s decision. It demanded that the 3.9 tmcft of water allocated for drinking water purpose is utilised effectively. Since water was not allocated for agriculture, the meeting resolved to urge the state government to demand for 22 tmc ft of water.The members said that the Centre, citing the issue being pending in the tribunal, had refused to intervene in the matter. They said the centre must now intervene as injustice was done to Karnataka in the tribunal too.Kudalasangama Panchamasali Peetha's Basava Jayamrutyunjaya Swami termed the verdict as a half victory to Karnataka. He noted that water was allotted to Karnataka thanks to the tribunal and not people's representatives. "Chief minster H D Kumaraswamy should give importance to the Mahadayi issue as well considering it as important as the Cauvery issue. Our struggle will not stop till we get 36 tmc ft of water," he said.Navalgund MLA Shankar Patil Munenakoppa assured of supporting the movement for additional water. Veteran journalist Patil Puttappa, who presided over, said the movement will not stop till the state gets its due share of water.
