Belagavi: A BMW car mowed down a woman and injured her sister when they were crossing the road on National Highway-4 near Gandhi Nagar on Monday evening.The driver has been detained for questioning. He has been identified as Khail Tikno, 25, a resident of Goa. Police have sent him for medical test.Tamreen Khalid Bispi, 20, is the victim and Tehaniyat Khalid Bispi, 18, is the injured. They also blocked the NH4 for 15 minutes.The incident occurred in the evening when the BMW (GA 03 Z 0678) was moving from Azad Nagar to Ujwal Nagar on the service road at Gandhi Nagar. The driver was speeding and could not control the vehicle, claimed police sources.On receiving information, traffic north police station officers rushed to the spot. By then locals and passersby had broken the windshield and tried to set the car blaze. Police reached the spot in time to control the mob and extinguished the fire. Traffic North police have taken the driver into custody after booking a case under IPC Section 304(A) and started investigation. Police from Malmaruti police station too rushed to the spot.
