Will Belagavi APMC polls trigger another face-off?

BELAGAVI: The Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC- Belagavi) elections on October 15 could be another face-off between the Jarkiholi brothers and KPCC Women's Morcha president Laxmi Hebbalkar after the PLB Bank episode. Satish Jarkiholi played a crucial role in electing the president and vice-presidents of Belagavi APMC for the past three elections. According to sources, Jarkiholis and Hebbalkar are putting pressure on the government to nominate two directors from their camps. Of the 14 directors, 8 are with Congress, two with BJP and four with Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES). The Jarkiholi camp doesn't want to support her candidate but in a dilemma on how to reject Kadam and support another Maratha candidate.Fight for nominationsT he state government may nominate three directors to the APMC before the elections.

Satish Jarkiholi played a crucial role in electing the president and vice-presidents of Belagavi APMC for the past three elections. He supported Maratha candidates for top posts. He has an upper hand in this election too and met APMC directors who support him a couple of days ago.The term of the current president and vice president will end on October 17.During the PLD Bank elections, Jarkiholis wanted to elect a Maratha as president while Hebbalkar wanted a Lingayat candidate who had worked against Satish during the assembly elections in Yamakanamaradi constituency.R ecently, Satish told mediapersons that they (Jarkiholis) will support a Maratha candidate in the APMC polls. Banking on Marathas is said to be preparation for the Lok Sabha elections in which they plan to support a Maratha candidate from Belagavi against present BJP MP Suresh Angadi If Hebbalkar also chooses a Maratha candidate for the president's post, it could lead to a clash. Of the 14 directors, 8 are with Congress, two with BJP and four with Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES). The government is yet to nominate three members.During the last election, Satish supported Ningappa Jadhav (MES) for the president's post and BJP's Renuka Patil for vice-president's post against official Congress candidates Yuvaraj Kadam and Sudhir Gadde.Both candidates for the president's post got seven votes each, and Ningappa Jadhav won by lottery Hebbalkar has almost decided to field Yuvaraj Kadam, a staunch Congress supporter and former BUDA chairman, for the president's post. The Jarkiholi camp doesn't want to support her candidate but in a dilemma on how to reject Kadam and support another Maratha candidate.Fight for nominationsT he state government may nominate three directors to the APMC before the elections.
