One kg ganja worth Rs 1 lakh recovered from 5 peddlers

The accused were involved in selling ganja brought from Chintapalli, Andhra Pradesh. They were supplying ganja to other parts of the district and Uttar Kannada.The peddlers would bring ganja to the city by bus, train or car. Nagaraj said that it has become easy for them to bring ganja by train. Police Commissioner M N Nagaraj said Roshan is the main accused in the case.

Hubballi: Police arrested five peddlers and recovered 1kg ganja worth Rs 1 lakh here on Wednesday.The accused Roshan Rajeevababu Meerwala, 24, of Visakhapatnam, Mehaboobsubani Imamhussain Patil, 48, of Kavalwad village in Haliyal taluk, Sachin Adiveppa Hebballi, 22, Kalappa Maruteppa Nagannavar, 76, and Ajaya Balaji Dixit, 25, of Old Hubballi were arrested when they were selling ganja near the service road at railway bridge on Karwar Road. Police Commissioner M N Nagaraj said Roshan is the main accused in the case. The accused were involved in selling ganja brought from Chintapalli, Andhra Pradesh. They were supplying ganja to other parts of the district and Uttar Kannada.The peddlers would bring ganja to the city by bus, train or car. Nagaraj said that it has become easy for them to bring ganja by train. “RPF has been asked to be alert and keep an eye on the movement of suspicious people in railway stations to curb the smuggling of ganja. Police will also cooperate with RPF to tackle this issue,” he said.He also informed that a huge awareness campaign will be organized in Dharwad on January 18 to educate college students on impact of using ganja and other drugs.A team including CCB inspector Vinod Muktedar, Old Hubballi inspector Maruti Gullari, and personnel P B Kale, M G Hiremath, N A Kenchannavar, H B Nander and S B Madiwalar conducted the raid.
