Hubballi: A farmer couple, who entered into wedlock alongside four other couples on Wednesday in Hatti, Koppal district, used the occasion to train guests on how to cast their vote on an EVM. Thanks to their initiative, about 1,600 people exercised their franchise at the mock drill in the wedding hall. The hall too was decorated with banners carrying election-awareness slogans.Dyamanna Bevur, the farmer bridegroom, said he had planned all along to help four other couples get married during his own wedding ceremony . “All arrangements were in place,” Bevur said. “Then several organisations, including district SVEEP committee, requested that we use the wedding as a platform to spread awareness on voting . We agreed wholeheartedly.”Manjunath Gondabal, president, Swarabharati, said: “We had organized a similar programme at another wedding on March 8, but it wasn’t much of a success.”SVEEP officials said they barely get 200-300 people to vote in mock poll exercises. “Here, we had more than 1,550,” an official said.
