Hubballi: The Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation, which has procured a scanning machine at a cost of Rs 8 lakh for its Chitaguppi Hospital , is now looking for radiologists to run the machine.The commissioning of the machine will begin in a couple of days and the machine is expected to start functioning in a month. HDMC intends to offer this service at a lower price than private hospitals and scanning centres.HDMC’s health department has also commenced the formalities to register the scanning machine with the district health department.HDMC is looking for experienced radiologists who will be paid on a case by case basis, said sources.HDMC health officer Dr Prabhu Biradar said, “We cannot pay the salary as per the expectations of radiologists. We are looking for three to four radiologists to visit Chitaguppi Hospital on rotation basis. Usually, most private scanning centres take a break for lunch between 1 and 2pm. It would be useful if a radiologist vists Chitaguppi Hospital during lunch time.”“We had earlier considered to run the scanning centre for three days a week between 1 and 2pm. But now we have decided to run it all days of the week, subject to availability of radiologists,” he added.Salma Pathan, a resident of Old Hubballi said, “It is good that Chitaguppi Hospital will have its own scanning center and it will offer services at affordable rates. Now pregnant women face problems to get done ultra sound scanning done. As we do not have any other option, we go to private scanning centres.”
