HUBBALLI: A woman who allegedly wanted to commit suicide along with her two sons on a railway track in Koppal, about 120km east from here, was rescued in the nick of time by railway staff on Monday.Saleem Bhanapur, a contract staffer with the railways, told TOI he noticed a woman waiting at the Bhanapur station in Koppal district's Yalburagi taluk. "She made her sons sit on the railway track. Amaravati Express was scheduled to arrive by that time. Suspecting the woman's movement, we called Railway Protection Force , whose personnel rescued the woman and her two children," he said.According to RPF sources, the woman was incoherent, and presented different and conflicting stories to police. A source privy to the questioning said: "First, she claimed she was in a relationship with a person; a few minutes later, she said her husband, a railway employee in Ballari district's Hospet, was haughty. The woman and her sons, aged 7 and 8, have since been handed to the Mahila Santvana Centre and District Children Protection Unit , respectively." The eight-yearold boy reportedly told police his mother promised them a movie outing in Koppal and later brought them to railway station on the pretext of going to Gadag.Rohini Kotagara, a superintendent with Government Stay Home, Koppal, said they have informed the woman's relatives, besides counseling her.
