The pharma unit in Jeedimetla industrial area caught fire in the early hours of Friday. | Photo Credit: special arrangement more-in Seven workers of a pharma unit-cum-chemical factory at Jeedimetla industrial area were critically injured when a major fire broke out at the plant, in the early hours of Friday here. Police said that fire broke out around 6.30 a.m. at Seutic Pharma and Vijaya Sree Chemicals. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Regional Fire officer (Central Region) V. Papaiah said that flames were brought under control within 90 minutes as the premises had access to road from three sides, which made fire fighting operation hassle-free. The cause of the mishap is suspected to be a chemical reaction at the unit. “Property worth around ?1 crore was damaged in the accident,” he said. The officer said around 6.50 a.m. they received an emergency call after which eight vehicles were sent out from Secunderabad, Kukatpally, Sanathnagar, Shameerpet, Madhapur, Moulali and Cherlapally. The injured were identified as K. Kumara Swamy (39), B. Srinivas (38), K. Simhachalam (34), J. Shayam Charan (27), Haren (38), Narahar Reddy (20) and Sandeep Kumar (28), all working at the same pharma unit. They had just reported for duty when the incident happened. They were rushed to a private hospital in Kompally and later shifted to Apollo DRDO hospital in Kanchanbagh here. “So far no casualty was reported. However, three persons suffered severe burns, ” police said. Police said that B. Srinivas suffered 95 % burns and K. Simhachalam 91 %. Another victim K. Kumaraswamy had 80 % burns.
