more-in Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has described the manner in which the Congress members behaved in the House as “atrocious” and averred that his government is firm on dealing with such parties with an iron fist. He criticised the Congress members for indulging in “cheap politics” and said his government would not tolerate any activity that is in violation of the dignity and decorum of the Assembly. The manner in which the Congress members claimed that their target was Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, exposes their intent of creating trouble and growing impatience on being out of power. The Chief Minister, who reacted to the suspension/expulsion of the Congress members from the House, on Tuesday asserted that the main opposition members came predetermined to the House to create trouble and get suspended. “It (acting against them) is a tough decision, but we had no other option left,” he said terming Monday’s developments in the House as painful and unfortunate. He said the Congress members started spreading falsehoods against the continuance of his government within five days of taking over the reins. “Monday’s incidents reflects the height of their misbehaviour,” he said. He alleged that the Congress members are jealous of the popularity of his government as was evident from the manner in which the ruling party won elections at different levels in the last four years. “They (the Congress) lost deposits in majority of cases and hence, have been trying to tarnish the image of the Chief Minister as well as the government,” he said. Mr. Rao said the government is very clear in its stand on allowing debates on all issues “come what may” as was evident from the manner in which debates were allowed in the House in the past, beyond the prescribed time schedules. “There was scope for debate in the House on all the issues they wanted to raise. But the Congress members crossed their limits and there is a need to send an effective signal outside,” he said. Responding to the suggestion of BJP member G. Kishan Reddy that the government reconsider suspension of Opposition leader K. Jana Reddy, he said he had no objection if the BJP member wanted to side Mr. Jana Reddy setting aside his party’s stand and principles. With Mr. Kishan Reddy insisting on his request, the Chief Minister asked whether the BJP member was supporting Monday’s incidents in the House. He asserted that a decision (to suspend the Congress members) was already taken and there was no scope for further debate on the issue.
