Towards the middle of the last week, the maximum temperature dipped sharply by about seven degree Celsius below normal, bringing some much-needed respite from the heat, across Telangana. A weather trough extending from Punjab to Peninsular India was attributed to the dip in temperature and unseasonal rain in many parts of the State. “We expect the temperature to now climb and the summer to progress. The lowered day temperature is likely to remain lowered for about two days before the climb resumes,” said Y.K. Reddy, in-charge of India Meteorological Department’s Hyderabad centre. On Saturday, Hyderabad recorded a maximum temperature of 32.6 degree Celsius, about four degrees below normal. A week ago, maximum temperature was hovering around 37 degree Celsius. IMD’s weather forecast suggests the maximum temperature would reach the summer level by Tuesday. Khammam recorded the highest maximum temperature of 34 degree Celsius. This year, the IMD has forecast a summer more intense than last year. A greater number of days with heat waves are also expected to be witnessed, which may cause maximum temperature to rise beyond maximums recorded last year.
