Chandrababu Naidu are “quivering in their respective positions as they are scared about the inroads the BJP has been making throughout the country,” said newly elected Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh and the party’s official spokesman G.V.L. Narasimha Rao. Addressing a press conference at the party office, Mr. Rao accused both the Telugu CMs of resorting to personal criticism of the Prime Minister and “gimmicks” as they are afraid of losing power, while BJP expanded its influence from five States to 20 States. TS and AP are part of the remaining eight States where BJP is yet to make its presence felt, but the ruling parties are worried, he claimed. “All parties have a single point agenda of abusing the PM. They want to make wild accusations and gain political capital, but this will boomerang,” he said. South India has benefitted the most under PM Modi’s rule, said Mr. Rao, claiming that over ?9 lakh crore was allocated to southern States, which is three times more than the Congress regime’s allocations. Winning South India Devolution of funds too has been to the extent of 50%, as compared to 35% earlier, he said. “But somehow, they want to project the government in bad light,” the MP stated. Mr. Rao argued that the BJP had perfected the art of coalition. “We do not believe in ending any alliance, but TDP’s exit from NDA was at its own bidding,” he explained. The BJP is not only confident of winning more seats in 2019 elections, but is also sure about winning more from south India. He initially refused to put a number, but said the party was working at winning up to 300 seats and anywhere between 40 to 50 seats in south India. “We did not win too many seats in last elections in south India, but we believe no prospective front can give any competition to PM Modi. People have witnessed a corruption-free regime and several development initiatives,” said the BJP leader. In both the Telugu States, the party would emerge as an alternative political force. “We will take the confidence of winning Tripura down south. We are poised to win in Karnataka and Kerala is the only State left,” added Mr. Rao.
