Submit insurance forms by the month-end: Pocharam

With the State government deciding to launch the Rythu Bandhu insurance scheme to the farmers from August 15 onwards, Minister for Agriculture Pocharam Srinivas Reddy has informed the officials to submit the insurance scheme nomination forms by this month-end without fail. Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies Eatala Rajender said that the Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bandhu insurance scheme were not election stunts but aimed at the upliftment of the farming community, who were the backbone of the country. He said farmers in the age group of 18 to 60 years were eligible for insurance and that all farmers possessing pattadar passbooks were eligible to enrol in the insurance scheme. He said that the second phase of Rythu Bandhu investment support scheme would be issued in the month of November. He said that about 90% farmers had encashed the cheques issued under the Rythu Bandhu scheme and collected ?4,700 crore in the State.

Participating in a review meeting for the field-level implementation of the insurance scheme in Karimnagar town on Monday with the farmers’ coordination committee members and agricultural officials, the Minister said that the State government has allocated ?1100 crore for the implementation of the insurance scheme for the benefit of about 50 lakh farmers. Stating that the State government would pay the premium amount of ?2,271.50 to each farmer, he said the farmers would get an insurance coverage of ?5 lakh for natural and accidental death. He also said that the bereaved family members would receive the insurance cheque of ?5 lakh within 15 days and the death certificate should be secured from the village revenue officer (VRO). If the insurance amount cheque was delayed, he said that they would impose a fine of ?1,000 per day on the concerned official. He instructed the agricultural extension officers (AEO) to conduct door-to-door visit and enrol the farmers in the insurance scheme by taking signature of the farmer and filling up the name of the nominee in the application form. He said farmers in the age group of 18 to 60 years were eligible for insurance and that all farmers possessing pattadar passbooks were eligible to enrol in the insurance scheme. Farmers’ coordination committee chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy said they had distributed the insurance scheme forms in the name of farmers and dispatched to the districts for enrolment of the farmers and their nominees. He said that about 90% farmers had encashed the cheques issued under the Rythu Bandhu scheme and collected ?4,700 crore in the State. MP B. Vinod Kumar, ZP chairperson Tula Uma, legislative council chief whip P. Sudhakar Reddy, MLCs Naradasu Laxman Rao and T. Bhanu Prasad, legislators K. Vidyasagar Rao, P. Madhukar, B. Shoba, G. Kamalakar, S. Satyanarayana, V. Satish Babu, IDC chairman Eda Shankar Reddy were present.
