The meeting, organised by the Struggle Committee, against private universities, asked the government to strengthen existing public universities. “There should be a broad-based resistance against private universities and students should lead that agitation,” Prof. Laxminayana, an activist said. By introducing the private university’s bill, the government has ignored educationists, intellectuals, teachers and students studying in public universities and colleges, the attendees pointed out. A collective of activists and student leaders, who organised a discussion forum on youth participation in politics, have demanded that the Telangana government to withdraw private universities bill. Student organisations including 22 student organisations including Progressive Democratic Students Union, All India Students Federation, Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika and Democratic Students Union among others, participated in the event.
