more-in A collective of activists and student leaders, who organised a discussion forum on youth participation in politics, have demanded that the Telangana government to withdraw private universities bill. The meeting, organised by the Struggle Committee, against private universities, asked the government to strengthen existing public universities. About 30% of the State’s budget should be allotted to education sector, the committee demanded. “Government should take over all the existing private schools,colleges and universities in order to actualise the KG to PG free education for all,” said Prof. Chakradhara Rao. Prof. G. Haragopal was also part of the discussion. Student organisations including 22 student organisations including Progressive Democratic Students Union, All India Students Federation, Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika and Democratic Students Union among others, participated in the event. By introducing the private university’s bill, the government has ignored educationists, intellectuals, teachers and students studying in public universities and colleges, the attendees pointed out. “There should be a broad-based resistance against private universities and students should lead that agitation,” Prof. Laxminayana, an activist said. The committee is also supported by CPI and CPI-Marxist-Leninist (New Democracy).
