Sarthak Rao Babras (38) from Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands was arrested by the Gopalapuram police on the basis of a complaint lodged by a jewellery shop owner accusing him of cheating. The complainant, Sunay Dochania of Amarson’s Pearls and Jewels stated that recently the accused called him on the mobile phone and asked him to send a few models of gold chains through WhatsApp pretending to be a buyer. “Babras selected two gold chains and asked the jeweller to send them to a hotel in Secunderabad, where he was staying. When the delivery boy met the latter, he diverted his attention and fled with the gold ornaments,” said North Zone DCP B. Sumathi. Habitual offender She said the accused is a habitual offender and often stays in star hotels by submitting fake documents and escapes without paying bills. Babras was arrested by the crime branch staff of Gopalpuram while coming out of Secunderabad Railway Station on Tuesday. Cops recovered two gold chains, ?25,000 and a smartphone from his possession.
