State seeks national project status for Kaleshwaram

They explained that Kaleshwaram project has all qualifications to be notified as a national project since it has already secured all clearances and permissions. Ahead of the commencement of monsoon session of Parliament, Telangana government has requested the Centre again to recognise Kaleshwaram as national project and allocate funds for its early completion. Jithender Reddy called on Union Minister for Water Resources Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Tuesday and made the request. Speaking to newspersons after meeting the Union Minister, Mr. Harish Rao said the former had assured to examine Telangana government's request. A delegation led Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao and Floor Leader of TRS in Lok Sabha A.P.

A delegation led Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao and Floor Leader of TRS in Lok Sabha A.P. Jithender Reddy called on Union Minister for Water Resources Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Tuesday and made the request. They explained that Kaleshwaram project has all qualifications to be notified as a national project since it has already secured all clearances and permissions. Thanking Mr. Gadkari for cooperating with the government in getting all clearances for Kaleshwaram project, Mr. Harish Rao also invited the Union Minister to visit the project stating that it was the fastest progressing irrigation project in the country and also being dubbed as model in the construction of irrigation projects. Further, Mr. Harish Rao said the demand for national project status to Kaleshwaram was just since it was going to irrigate over 37 lakh acres of parched farm lands in the drought-prone areas of Telangana, besides providing drinking water to majority of people in the State as also meeting the industrial sector needs of water. Speaking to newspersons after meeting the Union Minister, Mr. Harish Rao said the former had assured to examine Telangana government's request. Special Representatives of Telangana government in the national capital S. Venugopalachary, T. Ramachandru, M. Jagannatham and others accompanied the Mr. Harish Rao during his meeting with the Union Minister.
