Attack on Swami Agnivesh condemned

A roundtable convened by Jana Chaitanya Vedika has condemned the attack on Swami Agnivesh by a group of BJP-affiliated BJYM and ABVP activists. The attack on Swami Agnivesh who worked for decades against bonded and child labour and for empowerment of dalits and tribals reflects the rising levels of intolerance and increasing incidence of “mobocracy”, the roundtable felt. Sakshi editorial director K. Ramachandramurthy said the attacks are tantamount to hurting the fundamental right - right to freedom of expression. IJU president D. Amar expressed concern over the increasing atrocities that are being committed by the Sangh Parivar forces. IJU advisor K. Srinivas Reddy stressed the need for protection of freedom of expression.

CPI national secretary K. Narayana cited the attacks on common people by the Gau Raksha activists. He lamented that politics in the name of caste and religion are becoming the order of the day and said the incident expose the “fascist tendencies” of the ruling party.. He also expressed concern over the increasing influence of money in politics and said political parties are allowing money power to dominate the political scene. Sakshi editorial director K. Ramachandramurthy said the attacks are tantamount to hurting the fundamental right - right to freedom of expression. Jana Chaitanya Vedika State president V. Lakshmana Reddy, who presided over the roundtable, recalled the contributions of Swami Agnivesh for the uplift of the downtrodden and demanded that Prime Minister Modi order an inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into the incident. IJU president D. Amar expressed concern over the increasing atrocities that are being committed by the Sangh Parivar forces. IJU advisor K. Srinivas Reddy stressed the need for protection of freedom of expression. Senior journalist Telakapalli Ravi, social activist Rama Melkote also spoke.
