Govt. supports sand mafia, allege Nerella victims

Victims of the police ‘atrocities’ in Nerella in Sricilla district turned emotional and cried in front of the media accusing the Government of not taking any action on the people involved in ‘sand mafia’ in the district. He said the government needs to answer why no charge sheet has been filed in the Nerella incident even after one year and why the cases were not withdrawn against the torture victims when the police failed to file a chargesheet.

The victims, including Banaiah, Gandham Gopal, Basava Eshwar and Harish, charged that their injuries remain and the horrific torture still haunts them and the police continues to target them whenever IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao is in town. “The police continue to be after us with false cases but not a single case has been filed against the lorry owners,” they said. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy criticised the government saying that the SP involved in the torture of Dalits in the Nerella incident has been rewarded with a good posting in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation by Mr. K. T. Rama Rao instead of action initiated against him. He charged that the Chief Minister’s family was looting the State using sand mafia and killing people opposing the illegal sand mining. Public meeting The TPCC chief said a public meeting would be organised at Sircilla by the month end or August first week to highlight the toruture of Dalits and Backward Classes in Nerella. He said AICC president Rahul Gandhi would be requested to attend the meeting where the atrocities committed on the innocent people would be questioned. He said the government needs to answer why no charge sheet has been filed in the Nerella incident even after one year and why the cases were not withdrawn against the torture victims when the police failed to file a chargesheet.
