The stunned audience at the Haritha Kala Bhavan in Secunderabad, gasped in astonishment as renowned magician Jadugar Anand Jr performed his daredevilry act. This was a stunt Hyderabadis had never seen before – it was both scary and spectacular at the same time. The breathtaking performance involved a person locked in chains, handcuffed and placed inside a huge wooden box, but manages to escape unscathed as speeding car crashes into the box with him inside it.A large audience had gathered on the streets to witness the spectacle. At first, there were curious whispers and several people shook their heads in disbelief as the magician explained what was going to happen.Jadugar Anand Jr was then brought in front of them, locked in chains and handcuffed, before being sealed in a large wooden box. He box was airtight and there was no way he could get out.Before the audience, who were watching with bated breath, even realised, a speeding car crashed into the car, blowing it into pieces.The stunned audience gasped in panic, imagining the worst – but the man had unlocked himself and leapt out of the box at the last second, coming out unscathed. It was a masterful act of deception and had the desired effect on the audience, who applauded in unison.Jadugar Anand, who’s renowned all over the world as a magician, said the stunt required a lot of planning and coordination. “It’s obviously very dangerous and there are high risks involved. But the perfection that we have brought into planning, coordination and timing makes it look easy,” he said.
