Demand to extend Central schemes to farmers

Bharatiya Janata Party State executive committee member D. Aravind has charged the State government with not extending benefits of Central schemes like the PM Fasal Bima Yojana to farmers at the time when they are beset with difficulties. Another executive member Baswa Laxminarsaiah and party district president Palle Ganga Reddy also spoke. Following which, in MP agriculture growth increased from 3 % to 20 % and extent of cultivation from 7 lakh acres to 40 lakh acres, after the BJP had come to power, he said. Being caught in crisis due to absence of profitable price for agriculture produce and loss due to untimely rains farmers were committing suicide, he said adding that Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgharh and Maharashtra governments were paying bonus to crops. To double farmers’ income by 2022 Narendra Modi government increased minimum support price for several crops but the State government was not adding any bonus to them, he said while addressing a dharna staged by the BJP against what it called anti-farmer policies in the State, in front of the Collectorate, here on Thursday.
