more-in Rahul Gandhi’s proposed visit to Osmania University to address students on “Telangana, Youth and Unemployment” is highly unlikely as the authorities apparently are under pressure from the State government, which doesn’t wish to see him making a political statement from the university that caught the nation’s attention during the Telangana agitation. The university will neither deny nor give permission to the request made by some student groups and likely to keep the application ‘under consideration.’ A senior official said the varsity understands the political implications and the fall out if they give permission and also face students’ wrath if permission is denied. “We will be accused of dancing to the tunes of the State government if permission is not granted and at the same time cannot antagonise the higher-ups in the government,” he revealed. The university is also citing various directions from the courts on allowing political meetings at the iconic Arts College. However, student groups played smart move by applying for permission for Tagore Auditorium for a lecture and interaction without mentioning any political issues. They also paid advance of ? 75,000 for the auditorium. As per the procedure for any programme, student groups or others need to apply to the Estate Officer but the University Registrar is the final authority for extending permission for any event. University also reserves the right to deny permission if it foresees any security related issues that it can’t handle on its own and goes by the local police advice. Apparently, this option will be used given the stature of Mr. Rahul Gandhi and he also being under the Z plus security working under the Special Protection Group (SPG).
