HC seeks documents of Palamuru LI project

The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Telangana government to present before it the documents relating to tenders of Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. He alleged that money was changing hands as actions of authorities gave scope for middlemen for execution of the project. The bench was hearing the petition filed by a student K. Urjitha Yadav from Anantapur of AP. Her lawyer J. Sudheer represented to the bench to take up the review in the backdrop of its urgency. Mr. Reddy, who appeared as party-in-person for the petition, contended that irrational enhancement of project costs by officials was likely to cause loss to the public exchequer.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice V. Ramasubramanian gave the direction while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition filed by former Minister Nagam Janardhan Reddy. Mr. Reddy, who appeared as party-in-person for the petition, contended that irrational enhancement of project costs by officials was likely to cause loss to the public exchequer. He alleged that money was changing hands as actions of authorities gave scope for middlemen for execution of the project. The hearing was posted to next Tuesday. Plea on medical college admissions The bench on Tuesday sought to know from NTR University of Health Sciences and Andhra Pradesh State if there was any error in the interpretation of Government Order 550 relating to admissions in medical colleges. The bench raised this question while hearing a review petition relating to the recent verdict given by it over maintenance of 50:50 ratio between the reserved category and open category students in MBBS admissions. The bench was hearing the petition filed by a student K. Urjitha Yadav from Anantapur of AP. Her lawyer J. Sudheer represented to the bench to take up the review in the backdrop of its urgency.
