more-in Efforts to forge a broad-based alliance of the opposition parties for effectively taking on the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti gained momentum on Monday. Telangana Jana Samiti president M. Kodandaram held discussions with the leaders of Telugu Desam Party and Left parties. Prof. Kodandaram called on the TDP-TS president L. Ramana and the Left parties’ leaders who were taken into preventive custody and lodged in Chikkadpally police stations when they tried to stage a dharna in response to the nationwide bandh call given by the Congress in protest against the steep hike in petroleum prices in the past few days. The leaders, it is learnt, discussed about the strategy that should be adopted to avoid split in the opposition vote as it could benefit the ruling TRS. Prof. Kodandaram said the meeting was basically aimed at sharing information relating to the situation in the State so that the like-minded parties could decide on their course of action. Prof. Kodandaram told The Hindu that the parties focussed on evolving a unified approach in their discussions today but there was no discussion on the seat sharing arrangements or alliances. “We may have to conclude the discussions on the strategy and the possible seat sharing arrangements soon,” he said. The discussions would continue on Tuesday too as “we have to conclude the talks as soon as possible, probably in two to three days,” he said. Prof. Kodandaram said discussions relating to sharing of seats would commence once the parties chalk out a course of action that should be adopted.
