HYDERABAD: Four days after her husband Perumalla Pranay was hacked to death in broad daylight in Miryalaguda Amrutha Varshini , widow of the slain Dalit man, launched a campaign ‘Justice for Pranay’ on social media. Facebook page and a Twitter handle were unveiled, seeking justice for Pranay. The FB page, which was launched with an aim to fight casteism, has already got around 24,000 likes. After Pranay was killed on September 14 outside a private hospital, Amrutha said she would fight for justice so that the law punishes her father Maruthi Rao, uncle Sravan and others involved in the murder of her husband.Tollywood celebrities came in support of Amrutha and tweeted against the gruesome killing of Pranay. Protests and candlelight rallies were held on Monday in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over the murder of the Dalit Christian.Actor Manchu Manoj tweeted, “Caste feelings in any form, be it caste-based movie actors (fans), political parties, college unions, caste and religious organisation is brutal. Each person who encourages caste is responsible for the horrible act that occurred. … Shame on all those caste lovers and supporters. Shut down casteism. It is diseases (sic) that need to be prevented. My heart goes out to Pranay’s wife Amrutha and the entire family. Deepest condolences and We are too sorry.”Actor Nikhil Siddhartha tweeted, “Haunted by the Brutal Murder of Pranay Kumar. Punishment should be such that this should not be repeated. Persons who resort to honour killing should fear. Every human is equal. Rest in Pease Pranay Brother.” Another Tollywood hero Pothineni Ram tweeted, “On one side section 377 is struck off by the courts, but we are witnessing caste-based honour killings. For god sake learn to (sic) human first.”A candlelight rally was organised by SC/ST officers’ forum in the evening, which witnessed massive participation at Tank Bund and hundreds paid homage to Pranay.Writer Taslima Nasreen tweeted, “Pranay Perumalla was killed by his in-laws only because he is from lower cast. India's caste system is the worst system ever. (sic)”Telangana Congress president Uttam Kumar Reddy said, “I’m saddened by cruel honour killing of Miryalguda Dalit Bidda Pranay. Recent developments have pointed towards involvement of TRS leaders. An urgent independent, impartial investigation needed to bring perpetrators to book. My condolences to his wife, Amrutha. Pranay Amar Rahe.”
