Telangana polls: Congress rebels form new front

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader P Shankar Rao filed his nomination from Shadnagar constituency on Thursday. While he is firm on contesting, senior party leaders are trying to pacify him to withdraw.

HYDERABAD: In what could spell fresh trouble for Congress, dissidents on Friday formed a new united rebel front (URF) and announced that those who have been denied ticket will contest as independents from at least 40 seats. The leaders, including Boda Janardhan, Vijayarama Rao and others, said both TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy and Telangan in-charge RC Khuntia would be responsible if Congress doesn't come to power.The dissidents, who met in a hotel here on Friday, said the Congress has given tickets to leaders with criminal record and involved in settlements, realtors and bank defaulters. "We will come out with a list of those Congress candidates who have such records," Vijayarama Rao said. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader P Shankar Rao filed his nomination from Shadnagar constituency on Thursday. He was elected from Shadnagar for four times - 1983, 1989, 1994 and 1999 - and from Secunderabad Cantonment in 2009 polls.Though he tried his hand in 2014, Rao was denied the ticket.
