In a first, transgender to contest T'gana polls

Hyderabad: In a moment of history for Telangana’s political arena, a person from the transgender community has filed nomination from Goshamahal constituency to contest in the upcoming elections.Transwoman Chandramukhi Muvvala, who filed her nomination for Bahujana Left Front (BLF) ticket, says that she aims to fight for equal rights and against atrocities on transgender persons if she wins. Chandramukhi will be contesting from Goshamahal constituency against BJP candidate T Raja Singh.Actively protesting against the atrocities on her community from past several years, Chandramukhi said that she always wanted to take part in electoral politics to make policy-level decisions for the transgender community.“Politicians promise several things to make our lives better, but they do not even talk about them after the election period,” said Chandramukhi. BLF if the only party to have allotted a party ticket to a transgender. “Big parties like TRS, Congress and BJP never gave a ticket to a transperson in the state.
