Hyderabad: In a significant development, the GHMC officials today launched the “Feed the Need” program to provide food free of cost to the needy in the city. An Application will be made available for donors, hotels and voluntary organizations to provide food to the poor in support of the program giving free food. Mayor B Rammohan and the Commissioner Dana Kishore have started “Feed the Need” stall at Jubilee Hills Check Post here. Speaking on the occasion they said that the program aims to provide food free and ensure that no one in the city remain hunger. They appealed to the donors and hotel managements and voluntary organisations to extend helping hand to the needy and poor to get food free of cost. They said that they came up with another program to provide food free of cost to the poor and destitute who cannot even spend Rs 5 to get meals from GHMC stalls across twin cities. Donors have come forward to give 40000 food pockets a day and the free food program will be expanded in future in the city they said. They asked the hotels, donors and voluntary organisations to avoid wastage of food and make use of the application and send the food to the GHMC to ensure feed it to the needy and the destitute who cannot afford Rs 5 to get food from existing food scheme they said. The program will be successful if donors, hotels and voluntary organizations extend a helping hand, they hoped.
