HYDERABAD: A successful Indian-American couple from Hyderabad living in the US was on Monday found dead with gunshot wounds in their apartment in an affluent suburb of the city of Sugar Land, just southwest of Houston in Texas. Both were professionals and had been living in the US for many years after studying there.Sreenivas Nakirekanti, 51, is believed to have shot his 46-year-old wife Shanti before turning the trigger on himself. Shanti was found with a gunshot wound to her head in the driveway of the home on Pendergrass and Sheffield Court, while Sreenivas was found in the bedroom with the gunshot wound to the chest and a handgun nearby.The couple's 16-year-old daughter was at home at the time. She told cops that she had no clue what had happened as she was asleep. Besides the daughter, the couple is survived by their 21-year-old son who is studying at the University of Texas and was not at home at the time of the incident.Sreenivas was director at Reliant Energy, an American energy company based in Houston, while Shanti was project lead in United Airlines . Sreenivas was also president of Indo-American Charity Foundation, as the couple was involved with some charitable organisations.In her LinkedIn profile, Shanti described herself as project lead/architect in United Airlines. A former student of Osmania University from where she earned her BE in electronics, Shanti had previously worked as a senior consultant with Chevron.It is said that some neighbours, who heard gunshots on Monday morning, alerted the police who reached the spot. Sugar Land Police Department got the call at 5.40 am. While the exact motive behind the deaths is not yet clear, police suspect that it could have been the result of domestic discord. Reports said friends of Sreenivas received an email at 5 am but police officers advised them not to share the contents till details came out.
