Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court today gave its nod for holding elections to Local Bodies in Telangana State. Thus, the State Election Commission can hold the polls for ZPTCs and MPTCs in the State, the High court ruled. The petitioner argued that injustice was being meted out to the BCs while SCs and STs are getting due share in the local bodies polls. The Court was hearing a case against the polls that there was no priority for BCs and reservations were not being followed.

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court today gave its nod for holding elections to Local Bodies in Telangana State. With this, the State Election Commission can now go in for holding the polls for ZPTCs and MPTCs across 32 districts in Telangana State. The Court was hearing a case against the polls that there was no priority for BCs and reservations were not being followed. On this, the court observed that as per Supreme Court guidelines and followed by Panchayat Raj Act Section 285-A, the reservations will not go beyond 50 per cent. Thus, the State Election Commission can hold the polls for ZPTCs and MPTCs in the State, the High court ruled. The petitioner argued that injustice was being meted out to the BCs while SCs and STs are getting due share in the local bodies polls. The petitioner further appealed to allocate reservations first to BCs and then to SCs and STs for the polls. The court said it would hear the same during next hearing and posted it to May 22. The court also issued notices to Election Commission, Panchayat Raj principal secretary and State Election body, Telangana BC Corporation, finance corporations to respond through counter petitions in three weeks.
