“We simply can’t go back home just to use clean toilet, we want the authorites to build clean public toilets including bath shelters. In addition to the PTC, the car park area at the airport also offers washrooms for drivers”. The public transport center near the free car park area offers two blocks of toilets for drivers (Ladies and Gents). Most of them urinate on the roadside or find a secluded area, which is unhygienic and also not safe at night. When contacted, the GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) spokesperson said, “GHIAL offers a well-developed Taxi stand at the PTC.

Hyderabad: The Public Transport Center outside RGIA lacks in basic facility like ‘loo’ for hundreds of cabbies who work for about 14 to 16 hours on a stretch and sometimes even spend the night in their vehicle. With no way out and no basic amenity these cabbies struggle to find an isolated are to relieve themselves even during nights, “Most drivers work round the clock and find it difficult to find a place to relieve themselves. Most of them urinate on the roadside or find a secluded area, which is unhygienic and also not safe at night. Lack of enough washrooms poses a big challenge to them every single day,” said Shaik Salauddin, the president of the Telangana Four Wheeler’s Drivers Association. Relieving themselves out in the open, on the roadside near and close to RGIA is PTC’s as well as airport authorities failure as only two washrooms have been constructed for hundreds of workers. “The two washrooms which are available are always crowded and we have to stand in long queues. On most days, standing in the queue is not possible because we have to attend to our customers and reach our targets. This is why we are forced to relieve ourselves on the roadside,” a driver with cab aggregator Uber said. And adding to their woes the toilets are not even clean says another driver Mohammed Raees. “We simply can’t go back home just to use clean toilet, we want the authorites to build clean public toilets including bath shelters. When contacted, the GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) spokesperson said, “GHIAL offers a well-developed Taxi stand at the PTC. It has proper road network, rest area and convenience stores etc. for the drivers. The public transport center near the free car park area offers two blocks of toilets for drivers (Ladies and Gents). Another set of toilet block is under construction, which will be operational soon. In addition to the PTC, the car park area at the airport also offers washrooms for drivers”.
