10 FIR cases registered against fake helmet sellers in Cyberabad

Cyberabad Commissionerate officials and helmet shop owners participating in a special drive for fake helmets here on Monday. Over, 40 helmet dealers participating in the drive have broken duplicate helmets and took oath to curb selling of low quality helmets. Meanwhile, helmet sellers in the city approached Traffic Police claiming that they would join hands with Police in curbing sale of such low quality and fake helmets. According to Cyberabad Traffic Police record, in 2019 (Up to October), out of 720 deaths in fatal accidents in Cyberabad, 388 deaths are involving two-wheeler riders and pillion riders. Also, 94% of the persons who died while riding two wheelers were either not wearing helmets or were wearing low quality helmets.

A+ A- Hyderabad: In view of increasing menace of sale, distribution and usage of low-quality and fake helmets in the city, Cyberabad Traffic Police constituted a special team headed by Traffic Inspector, M. Srinivasulu of Road Traffic Accident Cases Monitoring Cell (RTAM Cell) of Cyberabad to identify and raid on the shops and godowns selling and storing fake helmets in Cyberabad. The team identified such shops and got registered 10 FIRs (Criminal cases) against the concerned persons. Over, 40 helmet dealers participating in the drive have broken duplicate helmets and took oath to curb selling of low quality helmets. Meanwhile, helmet sellers in the city approached Traffic Police claiming that they would join hands with Police in curbing sale of such low quality and fake helmets. As it was a pro-active gesture by the stakeholders, Cyberabad Traffic Police welcomed the move and explained them about the ill-effects of selling low quality helmets to bike riders. According to Cyberabad Traffic Police record, in 2019 (Up to October), out of 720 deaths in fatal accidents in Cyberabad, 388 deaths are involving two-wheeler riders and pillion riders. This constitutes almost 54%. Also, 94% of the persons who died while riding two wheelers were either not wearing helmets or were wearing low quality helmets. The Cyberabad Traffic Police took up this drive against sale of low quality and fake helmets in Cyberabad limits, criminal cases will be investigated in detail and the distributors and manufactures will be brought to books.
