Disha Projet to help victims of violence

The Disha Project is a partnership between UNDP, supported by IKEA Foundation, and police to assist its ‘Bharosa’ initiative. Bharosa is a support centre where women and children affected by all kinds of violence are provided medical, legal and psychological assistance. The agreement extends support to enable these women to learn marketable skills and connect with income opportunities. The agreement was signed between Hyderabad City Commissioner M. Mahendar Reddy and chief of Skills and Business Development unit of UNDP Clement Chauvet. “We are fully committed towards empowerment of women and this partnership will enable vulnerable and marginalised women to get skilled and join the workforce in the State,” Mr. Reddy said.

more-in With an aim to make women economically self-sufficient for betterment of their families, the Hyderabad Police on Friday entered into an agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the Disha Project. The Commissioner said that empowering marginalised girls and women through education, skills trainings, improved healthcare and initial financial support, enables them to build better futures for their children and communities. This leads to breaking the cycle of poverty and creating circles of prosperity.
