But, the date of commencement of the academic year will be June 1 forthwith,” Mr. Srihari said.

The State Government will streamline the academic structure of the State-run and private educational institutions from the next academic year and the academic year will begin on June 1. The Government making this announcement on Wednesday said it will apply to all courses from the school level and the educational institutions should submit their applications for recognition, affiliation, shifting of premises, intake of students and related in line with the new schedule. The applications will be scrutinised and inspections taken up wherever necessary followed by their disposal by April 30. Different wings of the Education Department had been asked to prepare a roadmap of the programmes they intended to follow by December 10 after which the Government would release the academic calender for the next year. Decisions to this effect were taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari with senior officials of the department. The meeting resolved to ensure that all the common entrance tests to different courses would be conducted online from the next academic year after the Telangana State Council for Higher Education communicated its readiness to hold the examinations online. “Closing dates of academic year may differ for schools, colleges, universities and other technical institutions. But, the date of commencement of the academic year will be June 1 forthwith,” Mr. Srihari said. It was accordingly decided to release the academic calender for the ensuing year well in advance to enable the educational institutions to make arrangements to strictly adhere to the schedule. Mr. Srihari said there was a mismatch between the schedule finalised for the year and the situation at the ground level as the practice adopted by the previous governments was not student-centric. “We want to rectify this anomaly by extending facilities to students and improving the academic standards,” he said. The meeting discussed about the shortfall of facilities like lab equipment, sports infrastructure and other issues and it was decided to ensure that necessary facilities are put in place before the commencement of the academic schedule. “Directions had been issued to school managements to appoint physical education trainers on the lines of Vidya Volunteers wherever necessary,” he said. Necessary facilities would be put in place in the State-run institutions through allocations from the Government as well as the funds obtained as part of the corporate social responsibility. Currently, work valued at ?2,000 crore had been grounded to provide necessary infrastructure and amenities in the Government schools and it was targeted to ensure their completion by June 30. The educational institutions would be asked to redistribute staff, prepare work schedules and ensure completion of work within the stipulated deadline. These institutions would also be asked to adopt best practices followed elsewhere in the country while the department had decided to promote ICT at different levels.
