He clarified that the Government wishes to regulate the functioning of the private institutions and not to inconvenience their managements. “This is giving scope for several irregularities and we decided to prevent this,” Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari said on Wednesday. “Several of these private colleges are running unauthorised hostels. “Given the strength of more than 50,000 students, there is a need to regulate the functioning of these colleges,” he said. Several violations including the functioning of the institutions on public holidays and summer vacation came to the Government’s notice, hence this decision was taken. The private educational institutions also admit students over and above the sanctioned strength and approach the Government at a later date for regularisation, enhancement of intake and other facilities. “This is giving scope for several irregularities and we decided to prevent this,” Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari said on Wednesday. He clarified that the Government wishes to regulate the functioning of the private institutions and not to inconvenience their managements. The managements had been warned against conducting classes during summer vacation or public holidays while they were also asked to submit details pertaining to the hostels run by them in their application forms. “Several of these private colleges are running unauthorised hostels. Obtaining permission for setting up a hostel will be a must forthwith,” he said. The Government had conducted inspections in 194 institutions in the past few months and there were violations observed in more than 100 institutions. “Given the strength of more than 50,000 students, there is a need to regulate the functioning of these colleges,” he said. He said there was also mismatch in the number of institutions that were functioning and the actual student strength in the State. This was because of the indiscriminate permissions given to these institutions by the previous governments and these needed to be remedied. The Government had also inspected the colleges where suicides of students were reported and criminal cases registered against those institutions. 75% hike in salary likely Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari said the Government had received the report of a high-level committee of vice-chancellors constituted to review the remuneration being paid to assistant and associate professors working in different institutions on contract basis. The recommendations made by the committee had been approved and the file was sent to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for his approval. “The committee has recommended 75% hike in the amount being paid to contract assistant and associate professors,” he said.
