IMPHAL: Underscoring the significance of the 1891 Anglo-Manipuri war, Governor Najma Heptulla on Monday said she would urge the human resources development ministry to edit history text books to ensure the event is incorporated and that the freedom struggle of the people of Manipur is known across the world.Addressing a huge gathering during Patriots' Day at Bir Tikendrajit Park in Imphal, Heptulla said, "This day reminds us of the heroic acts of the Manipuris, both known and unknown, on different war fronts of the Anglo Manipur War of 1891. "People should not speak or act anything which would be a threat to the unity and national interest," Biren said while appealing to the people not to threaten the people's representative through media, particularly social media.Stating the selfless sacrifice made by the forefathers for the cause of the motherland, he said that as a mark of respect, the state cabinet had decided to officially name the JNIMS road in Imphal East as Pukhrambam Kajao Road and Lamphel to Shija Hospital Road in Imphal West as Chirai Naga Road. "We should never forget the selfless sacrifice of the freedom fighters of Manipur who fiercely fought the mighty British Empire," Heptulla said.She also appealed to all communities to shun violence and hatred among themselves and bring about an atmosphere of love and mutual understanding so that Manipur can move forward in the pace of development.The culture of bandhs and blockades is a thing of serious concern, she said and added that the ultimate sufferers of all these aberrations are the common people.Also speaking at the ceremony, chief minister N Biren Singh said that at any cost his government will stand for the people, unity and territorial integrity of the state.Commenting on unrest at Manipur University, Biren said the officials from the ministry of HRD would be arriving here in Imphal shortly and it is expected that the issue would be solved in next 3-4 days.Talking about freedom of speech and expression, the CM cautioned people and asked them to not cross the limits on it.
