IMPHAL: The 77-day Manipur University (MU) strike may be temporarily suspended, making it possible for the sixth semester results of various colleges to be declared after a long delay.A three-day meeting between the Centre, the state government and the agitating MU community ended on Thursday, with the government agreeing to reconstituting the fact-finding committee on the allegations of financial and administrative irregularities against the university's vice-chancellor Adya Prashad Pandey - the point of contention which led to the protests. The two official members appointed in the existing fact-finding committee by the Union HRD ministry will be replaced by a retired VC "who is mutually acceptable to the parties concerned".The order for the reconstitution of the panel will be issued on or before Friday and copies of the inquiry report (notification) will be made available to the Manipur University Students' Union, Manipur University Teachers' Association and Manipur University Staff Association - representatives of the protesting community. The university registrar will be appointed as the panel's nodal officer."During the period of inquiry and until follow-up action is taken on the inquiry report by the competent authority, preferably within a period of 15 days, Prof AP Pandey will be on leave," the agreement said.
