IMPHAL: Suspected rebels exploded a hand grenade near the house of a government special class contractor, identified as Y Tomba, in Imphal 's Yaiskul area around 6 pm on Friday. No one was injured. The attackers also placed a bag containing an IED at the gate of the house, which was later taken away unexploded by bomb experts. Angry residents staged a protest demonstration at Yaiskul on Saturday.A video of the incident captured by a CCTV camera show two youths on a scooter coming to the contractor's residence. One of them is seen keeping a blue bag beside the gate while the other hurls a grenade towards the house. Police rushed to the spot and cautioned locals not to go close to the site, warning that the bag might contain explosives. Bomb experts rushed to the spot, and confirmed that the bag contained an IED upon scanning it. They later retrieved the bag for further procedures.Police have registered a case on the matter. Nobody has been pulled up in connection with the incident so far. The incident might be to some monetary demand slapped by underground groups, police have said. No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion till the time of filing this report. The incident came around five hours after Prime Minisiter Narendra Modi left Imphal after addressing a mammoth public meeting at Hapta Kangjeibung here. Large scale security arrangements had been made across Imphal to thwart any unwanted incidents during the PM's visit.
