Road construction works have been started at the landslide-hit area in Khongnem Thana village in the Imphal-Mao sector of National Highway 2.

Road construction works have been started at the landslide-hit area in Khongnem Thana village in the Imphal-Mao sector of National Highway 2.

Khongnem Thana village is located about 72 km north of Imphal under Senapati district. The road construction work has been undertaken by the Bharat Infra Projects Limited (BIPL), a road construction agency, to make a new route in the sunken portion of the highway, which is the main supply route of the state.

Manipur public health engineering minister L Dikho, accompanied by senior officials, inspected the ongoing road construction works on Sunday, said reports.

On October 23 evening, the Imphal-Mao sector of the highway was completely disconnected due to a massive landslide at Khongnem Thana due to incessant rains in the last few days.

Many Imphal-bound goods trucks remained stranded along the highway while passenger-carrying Tata wingers are taking roads towards Imphal through other district routes.

Most of the major rivers in the state are flowing at the warning level even though the water levels in some of the rivers are receding in the last 24 hours, according to water resource department officials, who are monitoring the situation.

While the water levels of Imphal and Nambul rivers, passing through the main areas of the state capital, are receding, the water level of Iril river remains unchanged, sources added.
