INDORE: In a shocking case of honour killing, a 19-year-old girl was burnt to death by her father when she was on way to court to marry against the family's wish in Khandwa district on Friday morning.The girl, Laxmi Bhai , had gone home to collect her school marksheet for proof of her age, when her father, Sunderlal Jadhav, caught her and set her afire after pouring kerosene on her in Chainpur village.“We found the burnt body of the girl near her house after villagers informed the Dial 100 service. The body was sent for post-mortem examination,” DSP Shashikant Shreyam told TOI.Forensic experts were on the spot and collecting evidences, he said adding “We are investigating the matter. Though it has come to fore that the girl was on way to marry a youth, it is too early to arrive at a conclusion."Villagers claimed that Laxmi was planning to marry one Rajkumar, a neighbourhood youth. Her family had forbided her from doing so. When she went ahead against their wish, Sunderlal killed her in front of the villagers.Rajkumar told the police that Laxmi was an adult and was collecting proof of her age. She reached her home at around 7am to go to the court, when Sunderlal dragged her away.“We have taken Sunderlal into custody,” the DSP said.Statements of Rajkumar and other eyewitnesses were being recorded.
