Indore IMC to build approach road behind Gandhi Hall to ease congestion

The construction of approach road will commence soon after the permission is granted for it.Traffic jam in front of Gandhi Hall entrance is a major problem. The entrance is directly connected with MG Road, where traffic pressure is always high due to commercial outlets and court premises. In addition to this, IMC is also spending an amount of Rs3 crore on renovations and restoration work of the building.IMC commissioner said that a complete renovation of Gandhi Hall would be done under this project. “Provision of this new entry point would save visitors from getting stuck in traffic jam,” Singh said.Apart from this, IMC has also decided to remove quarters of fire fighters from behind Gandhi Hall and shift them to a nearby area. Both these work are expected to be finished within a year or so,” said Singh.

INDORE: People visiting Gandhi Hall will no longer have to face problem of traffic jam since Indore Municipal Corporation ( IMC ) has planned to construct another approach road to the building.If everything goes according to the plan of IMC officials, the road to be constructed behind the building would be used as main entry-exit to Gandhi Hall.“We have written to district administration authorities seeking permission to use the land near Poddar Plaza to develop an approach road to Gandhi Hall building,” said IMC commissioner Asheesh Singh.He said that as per the city’s master plan the land is already marked for approach road, but it was never used since it is behind the Gandhi Hall. The construction of approach road will commence soon after the permission is granted for it.Traffic jam in front of Gandhi Hall entrance is a major problem. The entrance is directly connected with MG Road, where traffic pressure is always high due to commercial outlets and court premises. Besides, other central government offices are also there owing to which movement of four-wheelers is also high on this road.People visiting or going out from Gandhi Hall often get stuck in traffic jam especially during an event organised at the building.Visitors coming from Shastri bridge also have to take a long U-turn from the road near Press Club since the traffic on MG Road is one way on this stretch. “Provision of this new entry point would save visitors from getting stuck in traffic jam,” Singh said.Apart from this, IMC has also decided to remove quarters of fire fighters from behind Gandhi Hall and shift them to a nearby area. Civic body has also got permission for it from fire brigade authorities.An amount of Rs 6 crore would be spent on this project. In addition to this, IMC is also spending an amount of Rs3 crore on renovations and restoration work of the building.IMC commissioner said that a complete renovation of Gandhi Hall would be done under this project. “We have also decided to renovate this building as a heritage property. Both these work are expected to be finished within a year or so,” said Singh.
