IMC identifies 300 encroachments

INDORE: The civic body has identified 300 residential structures at Machhi Bazaar area that are obstructing its river front development work.Though, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) authorities have planned to remove the structures, the process will take some time as they don’t have any other arrangement to shift the people, who will be affected.Officials said that they have started marking the open front area and survey of encroachments on the stretch from Harsiddhi bridge to Gangaur Ghat near Machhi Bazaar area for the next phase of river front development work.“In the initial phase of survey, around 300 temporary structures have been identified that are obstructing the river front development work on around one km stretch between Harsiddhi and Machhi Bazaar,” said IMC’s senior official Mahesh Sharma He said that as per national green tribunal’s (NGT) order, the prescribed 30meter width of the river will not be compromised. “Due to this, structures coming in the way of this work will be removed. A final decision in this regard will be taken up by mayor and IMC commissioner,” he said.Officials said that the occupants whose constructions are going to be razed will be provided with alternative arrangements. “We are going with construction of residential units under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna (PMAY) scheme. The drive will be taken up as soon as the units will be developed,” they said.The river front development work includes widening of open space up to 30 meter, restricting drain water from entering the river, walking tracks etc. Parks, leisure spaces and green belts will also be constructed along the river bed.
