INDORE: For the first time in MP's Mandsaur district, the process of forfeiture of properties worth Rs 12.52 crore has been initiated against a wanted drug smuggler, who had allegedly amassed the wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.Mumbai-based court for Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (forfeiture of property) Act, 1976 (SAFEMA) has issued notices to Narayan Singh and his family members for forfeiture of property worth Rs 12.52 crore, Mandsaur SP Manoj Kumar Singh said.“This is probably the highest value of property being seized under the SAFEMA in Madhya Pradesh. Similar actions were earlier carried out by the Mumbai SAFEMA court against Dawood Ibrahim,” he said.Narayan Singh was wanted for various drug trafficking cases including smuggling of 1.5 kg brown sugar under Suwasara police station. A reward of Rs 20,000 was declared on his head.Mandsaur police collected details of his properties and approached the SAFEMA court for further action. The police have identified three palatial residential houses, a fuel station, a general store, several pieces of agriculture land and an array of vehicles including tankers, SUVs and motorcycles – all amounting to Rs 12.52 crore.Narayan Singh and his family have been given a month’s time to reply to the notices. If they are not able to justify the source of income for purchase of the listed properties, they will be seized, Singh said, adding, “We have identified 30 smugglers in Mandsaur against whom similar action will be carried out.”
