Indore: Priyansh Morawala has ditched a family tour to Europe to opt for pocket friendly hotspot, Indonesia, after the cost of his customized package shot by 7% due to the weakening of the Indian currency.Like Morawala a lot of people, who want to go on a foreign trip from Indore, are either opting for pocket friendly destinations or cutting down on hotel category and local sightseeing to bear the pinch of the weak rupee.According to leading travel agents of Indore, the plunge in rupee has escalated the cost of foreign travel packages by Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 per person. From airfare to local shopping everything has gone up burning a hole in pocket.Bhavna Jadon, an owner of a travel company said, “Travellers are requesting to change category of hotels in the packages to bring the cost down. People are opting to stay in apartments as hotel constitutes a major chunk of the travel.”Travel agents also said that a lot of people are curtailing on local sightseeing, shopping, food and local tickets for amusement parks.Gaurav Desai, a banker, who is planning to fly abroad with his extended family to celebrate first birthday of his daughter said, “I am little skeptical now because we are a large group and even a small hike makes a big difference. I am thinking of putting things on hold until the rupee gets stabilized.”Business community and corporates are the top foreign travellers with summers and short weekends being the top rush period, local travel consultants said.They said, in Indore, people in the age group of 30 to 55 years fly the most to foreign destination.A travel agent, Kamlesh Gautam said, “The moment we quote rates clients put their plans on hold citing high prices. They want to go as a lot of enquires are pouring in but most of them now want us to design a customize packages to reduce the cost.”
