Nepalese couple who fled their country to tie the knot separated

Indore: A Nepalese couple , who had fled their country to tie the knot in city, were separated on Tuesday as they have not attained marriageable age as per Indian law. The child welfare committee sent the girl back to her hometown.“Crossing the international border, the 17-year-old girl had reached Indore with her lover, 20. On the basis of their mobile’s location, Nepal police contacted Indore Childline team on September 10. The youth started working here at a restaurant in September first week. They had also filed a missing complaint at their local police station.

When the team talked to the couple over phone, they agreed to appear before CWC,” committee’s chairperson Maya Pandey told TOI.She said that during questioning, the couple claimed that they had got married a few days ago at Khajrana Ganesh temple but could not furnish any proof.“As per Indian law, the girl and youth should attain 18 and 21 years age to get married,” said Pandey adding that she had informed CWC Delhi to coordinate with embassy of Nepal to issue appropriate direction in the matter.“We’ve coordinated with parents of the girl. They had also filed a missing complaint at their local police station. The girl’s mother and her uncle later reached Indore and took the girl back to Nepal with the help of the embassy,” said Pandey.“Following the instructions of CWC (Delhi) and embassy of Nepal, we set the boy free,” said Pandey.The boy also returned to Nepal as parents of the couple agreed to get them married after the girl attained marriageable age of 20 years as defined by Nepal law.
