Burhanpur Congress candidate backs out after protest

INDORE: Two days after Congress released its first list of candidates, the party's Burhanpur candidate has refused the ticket expressing his inability to contest the election apparently due to opposition from party cadre.Hamid Kazi said, "I respect the party's decision, but I am not a suitable candidate for this seat. Instead I have requested high command to give chance to my son Noor Kazi or any other suitable party member on basis winning prospects. Whoever will be the candidate of the party will have my complete support," he said.Party insiders said that Hamid Kazi was fielded by party on basis of demands raised by Congress Minority Cell members of Burhanpur. "There is high risk that BJP and other political parties would term his selection as religion based ticket distribution, which can work against the party," they said.Around 40 per cent voters of Burhanpur seat are Muslims. "Kazi however did not clarify about the exact reason behind his decision.

"There is high risk that BJP and other political parties would term his selection as religion based ticket distribution, which can work against the party," they said.Around 40 per cent voters of Burhanpur seat are Muslims. Sources also revealed that there is a chance that his candidature gets disqualified owing to a legal case pending against his name in high court since 2010. Kazi's selection had already triggered dissention among party workers. Many of them had even taken it to social media demanding reconsideration.
