A week later when Shahabuddin went to hospital to get birth certificate, the certificate had boy written on it.Shahabuddin smelled something fishy after which he clicked a photograph of the register and the certificate and filed a complaint to CMHO alleging that hospital staff had exchanged their child.After the complaint was received, CMHO handed over the case to district IDSP officer Dr Amit Malakar and PC Sethi Hospital in charge Dr Madhav Hassani for investigation, who then recorded statement of complainant and accused.“In the statements recorded, we suspect that someone from the hospital had tried to exchange the child as the register had a cut mark over boy and staff has done overwriting on it and it is impossible that a doctor was not sure that whether the infant is boy or girl,” said Dr Malakar.He added, “We recorded statement of hospital staff in which they claimed that it was due to clerical mistake, however, we are yet to record statement of medical officer of the health centre.”To verify the allegation, officials decided to get a DNA test done and proposed same to CMHO, who have agreed to it.“We will collect the sample and record statement of family members and medical officer in front of SDM so that no one can change their statement later. The sample will be sent to Delhi for DNA test since it is not conducted anywhere in Madhya Pradesh ,” Dr Malakar told TOI.
