Indore: Constable Pinky Bhagaur of Mizoram and Cachar (M and C) frontier (131 battalion) outperformed men by winning gold medal in rifle (standing position from 100 yard base) and silver medal in sniper (SSG) events at 49th Inter Frontier Platoon Weapons Competition here on Monday.For first time in the history of inter-frontier platoon weapons competition, 100 women constables took part and proved their mettle, not only by participating in the weapon events, but some of them outperforming their male counterparts.Out of the six weapon events, only four events - Beretta , pistol, rifle and sniper - were for women.“I practised only for one month. I had come with a mindset to win gold and make my battalion proud,” said Bhagaur, who is second born and has two brothers.The 24-year-old said, “I used to see soldiers in uniform and I always had an urge to serve our country and go at the borders. My father is a farmer and my mother is a home maker. They have always supported me and that’s how I could get through.” TNN
